Channels in tidal systems distribute water and sediments, channel migration reworks sediment, affects navigation and puts cables and pipes at risk, and the channel network properties determine the connectivity between the inlet and the shallow areas. Channels need to be detected in order to quantify their
dimensions, dynamics and position in the channel network, and to detect and identify tidal flats at a range of scales between channels, and connected to channels.
